Responsibilities:
A nonexempt position responsible for performing a variety of duties in the Cardiology Specialty practice. Involved in both the clinical and administrative areas including assisting physicians with patient care and handling clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks. Provides information to patients so they may fully utilize and benefit from the clinical service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Supports daily operations with the assistance of the Clinical Supervisor of the Cardiology Clinic and coordinates the work activities and schedules in a manner consistent with the Specialty Center and with input and guidance from the Specialty Clinical and Practice Support Supervisors.
  • Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned by verifying cardiology schedules and provider coverage for testing; accompanying patients to exam/procedure room; assisting patients as needed with walking, undressing and dressing, preparing for exam, etc.; collecting patient history; performing screenings per provider guidelines; assisting physicians/nurses with various procedures; charting; relaying instructions to patients/families; answering calls, and providing pertinent information. Including process, analyze, edit and interpret EKG data gathered by all cardiology devices including treadmill stressing equipment, Pacemakers, assist as needed with EKG’s, defibrillators, Loop/Linq recorders.
  • Assists with Stress ECHOs in hook up for treading. Use sound clinical judgement to effectively communicate ECG abnormalities by notifying cardiologist per protocol. Application and downloading of results for pacer maker interrogation results to Athena and assign to ordering provider for review after all artifacts have been removed scanning all reports to patient docs section into the electronic medical record. Downloading results of tracings for stress tests and uploaded to EMR. Administer aspirin or other meds per providers request for patients experiencing chest pain and assist with cardiac events during stress testing, calling EMS and providers for assistance.
  • Assist and maintain training for current cardiology workflows along with equipment operation/maintenance.
  • Works with Central Supply Coordinator to ensure stock levels and adequate orders are placed in time. Monitors medications and medical supplies for expired dates.
  • Responsible for assisting providers with cardiac monitoring, therapeutic measures, and procedures related to cardiac monitoring during nuclear stress testing and other treadmill procedures. Responsible for identification of patient arrhythmias, abnormalities or significant changes from baseline and reporting on the condition of patient/client to the appropriate supervisor or other health care team members. Maintains crash cart supplies and use of meds in the event of a code.
  • Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned that may include sending/receiving patient medical records; obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.; completing forms/requisitions as needed; scheduling appointments; verifying insurance coverage and patient demographics; managing and updating electronic medical record to ensure that information is complete. Assist with pre-visiting charts, adding appropriate codes to documentation for tests performed, completing patient cases, and documenting results of treadmill in-house testing. Gathers pertinent health data while reviewing patient's previous records and obtaining stress test results, EKGs, and any other cardiac study results from outside sources. Including: Faxing outstanding orders and documents. Monitors the Powershare/Nuance program regarding incoming and outgoing images. Obtain ABN’s as necessary.
  • Prepares treadmill equipment and supplies for stressing patients per order. Implements safety standards and performs appropriate maintenance on treadmill equipment. Troubleshoots, resolves, and/or reports equipment malfunctions as necessary. Complies with safety standards.
  • Fulfills environmental responsibilities as assigned that may include setting up equipment according to protocols; cleaning visit/procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control; cleaning sterilizer according to scheduled maintenance program and keeping appropriate records; ordering, sorting, storing supplies; and restocking exam/procedure rooms.
  • Fulfills organizational responsibilities as assigned including respecting/promoting patient rights; responding appropriately to emergency codes; sharing problems relating to patients and/or staff with immediate supervisor.
  • Promotes wellness by providing patient education materials, communicating physician advice/instructions.
  • It is The Villages Health Patient Centered Standard of Care that the 1st Response to patient calls must be within 1 hour, up to 3 hours maximum. This is a quality standard expectation for all TVH employees.
  • Communicates with other team members in clinical and clerical areas to provide a successful patient centered practice.
    Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience Requirements:
  • High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED) or medical assistant diploma or a community  college course in medical assisting/cardiographic technology. Certified medical assistant (CMA/RMA) certification required or Certified Cardio graphic Technician (Cct).
  • Minimum 1-3 years’ experience with ECG rhythm interpretation and Clinical Cardiology experience preferred. Documented evidence of externship completed in a medical office or facility.
  • Knowledge of Cardiology health care field, rhythm strip interpretation from all cardiology devices, pacer interrogations, treadmill operation and medical office protocols/procedures.
  • Knowledge of specific assisting tasks related to the Cardiology medical practice.
  • Knowledge of Cardiology information that must be conveyed to patients and families.
  • Skill in performing medical assistance tasks appropriately.
  • Skill intact and diplomacy in interpersonal interactions.
  • Skill in understanding patient education needs by effectively sharing information with patients and families.
  • Ability to communicate calmly and clearly with patients.
  • Ability to learn and retain information regarding patient care procedures.
  • Ability to project a pleasant and professional image.
  • Ability to plan. Prioritize and complete delegated tasks.
  • Ability to demonstrate compassion and caring in dealing with others.
  • Ability to work with computer and effectively use electronic medical records (EMR).
  • Ability to work under pressure.
Salary is commensurate with experience.
