Responsibilities:
A nonexempt position responsible for neurodiagnostic procedures under the supervision of physicians and clinical supervisor within the Neurology specialty.
Duties and Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Uses customer service principles and techniques to deal with patients calmly and pleasantly.
- Obtains, verifies, and records health history of patients. Gathers pertinent health data while reviewing patient's previous records obtaining any EEG results pertaining to any neurologic diagnosis. Including: Faxing outstanding orders, documents, and producing results for provider interpretation and attaching results to order in EMR.
- Provides basic patient care as ordered. Includes, pre-test discussion with patient producing a calm atmosphere to assist in obtaining best possible test results. Performs diagnostic EEG procedure using a series of 16 to 25 flat metal electrodes are attached to the patient’s scalp (or a cap that can be fixed) and fasten them with a glue-paste. Perform Evoke potentials and other neurologic tests ordered by providers. Adheres to infection control/safety guidelines and confidentiality policies. Including: Perform MoCA testing, Neurotrax testing, and mini cognitive test. Assist in setting up for EMG testing.
- Orders supplies, maintains the EEG machine and testing room. Assist clinical assistants with pre-visiting charts, entering new patient packet information. Obtain vitals, update meds/medical history when assisting the clinical team readying patients for office visits.
- Promotes wellness by providing patient education materials, communicating physician advice/instructions.
- It is The Villages Health Patient Centered Standard of Care that the 1st Response to patient calls must be within 1 hour, up to 3 hours maximum. This is a quality standard expectation for all TVH employees.
- Communicates with other team members in the clinical and clerical area to provide a successful patient centered practice.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience Requirements:
- High school diploma.
- Diploma through an accredited EEG program.
- Must have valid EEG registry certification.
- EEG experience preferred.
- CPR certification preferred.
- Current health records with the appropriate immunizations to work in the health care field (hepatitis B and tuberculosis)
- Knowledge of Neurology medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology.
- Familiarity with health care system, regulations, policies, and functions.
- Understanding of documentation standards.
- Knowledge of EEG equipment, supplies, and material needed for medical treatment.
- Understanding of EEG procedures including preparation and screening.
- Knowledge of infectious disease management and control and safety standards.
- Skill in reading and following written and oral medical order,
- Skill in initiating appropriate emergency procedures.
- Skill in handling a number of tasks simultaneously.
- Skill in performing blood draws.
- Skill intact and diplomacy in interpersonal interactions.
- Ability to communicate calmly and clearly with patients.
- Ability to use manual dexterity to perform medical treatments.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and diverse patient populations.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations for drug dosages.
- Ability to work with computer and effectively use electronic medical records (EMR).
- Ability to work under pressure.
